The rare sight of a tornado in Hong Kong was captured by an Observatory camera on Friday afternoon.

Forecasters say the tornado appeared in Chek Lap Kok at around 4 pm and lasted for around 20 minutes.

The phenomenon usually develops from intense thunderstorms, when warm air pushes against colder air in an updraft, and forms a column of vortex on land.

Nine tornadoes have been reported in Hong Kong since 1982, with the last one being detected in October 2005.
