Multiple MTR lines were crippled on Monday morning as anti-government protesters disrupted train services and roads across the territory to launch what they hoped would be a general strike.
As of 10.30am, services were suspended at multiple stations, including Tung Chung, Whampoa, all stations between Tai Wai and Shek Mun.
On the east rail, there were no services between Fo Tan and Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau. The railway was running a free shuttle bus service.
On the west rail, services between Yuen Long and Tuen Mun were suspended, with trains running every 10 minutes between Hung Hom and Yuen Long.
Tseung Kwan O Line services were halted between Yau Tong and Po Lam and Lohas Park, while services between Yau Tong and North Point were running every eight minutes.
The Ma On Shan Line was suspended between Shek Mun and Wu Kai Sha; between Tai Wai and Shek Mun services were running every six minutes.
On the Kwun Tong Line, trains between Kwun Tong and Tiu Keng Leng were running at 20 minute intervals, and every six minutes Between Ho Man Tin and Kwun Tong.
Some Light Rail routes were also suffering delays.
The MTR also said a fire was set inside a train in Kwai Fong station. There are numerous reports of massive queues and long delays at multiple stations.
Police also said ‘radical protesters’ had set up makeshift barricades at multiple locations across the territory, obstructing traffic.
The Cross Harbour and Tate’s Cairn tunnels were affected, as were major roads including Tuen Mun Road, Tolo Highway, and the area around Po Yap Road and Tong Yin Street in Tseung Kwan O, as well as Yuen Long and Kwai Fong.
Police were clearing barricades and trying to disperse protesters through much of Monday morning.
