Dozens of anti-extradition protesters have gathered outside the Mong Kok Police Station as a tense stand-off developed with police warning of an imminent clearance operation.
A group of protesters, who had earlier attended a march in To Kwa Wan, were standing across from a group of policemen guarding the premises and shining laser pointers at them.
Earlier, they had ignored police warning and continued to walk along Mau Tau Wai Road and Prince Edward Road West towards the police station.
Referring to the serious eye injuries a young woman protester suffered during the clashes in Tsim Sha Tsui last week, protesters chanted “bad cops return an eye” as some threw eggs at the station.
Riot police, armed with shields and batons, had already been deployed to guard the entrance station, which had suspended the report room service due to the stand-off.
The police said in a statement that protesters were participating in an unlawful assembly and urged them to leave as soon as possible.
The force also warned protesters to stop using laser beams to point at police officers as it constitutes an assault.
