The Fire Services Department said it is setting up a special team to investigate the cause of a fatal fire in Kwai Chung but said a preliminary investigation has showed nothing suspicious about the blaze.
But it revealed that firefighters at the scene had difficulty entering the flat as its entrance was blocked by objects.
The body of a woman was discovered after firefighters put out the blaze that started at a unit on the fifth floor of Kwai Yue House.
Fire services officers said they found the body in a bedroom of the flat.
Police said an initial investigation showed that a family of three lived in the flat, but no details of other members were available. They said the dead woman was aged around 34.
The fire department said 167 firefighters and ambulance staff were deployed to the scene after it received a report of the fire at 6:47am.
Around 100 residents were evacuated with the help of firefighters while 200 others left the building on their own. One person who felt unwell from smoke inhalation was taken to a hospital.
The blaze was brought under control by 8.30am.
