Pro-Beijing lawmaker Junius Ho was stabbed while campaigning for the upcoming district council elections in Tuen Mun at about 8.45am on Wednesday.
In a video circulating online, the attacker talked to Ho and gave him a bunch of flowers just before the incident near Richland Garden on Wu Chui Road.
The man asked if he could take a photo with the lawmaker, then took something which appeared to be a knife from his bag and stabbed the lawmaker in the chest.
But the man was quickly subdued by Ho and a few others nearby.
The man kept shouting abuse at Ho, calling him “human scum” and accusing him of orchestrating the attack at Yuen Long MTR Station on July 21, when dozens of people were beaten up by a group of men in white T-shirts.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated Ho before taking him to Tuen Mun Hospital. Police arrested the suspected attacker.
As Ho was being stretchered away from the A&E area after initial treatment, he told reporters that he has a two centimetre-long wound near his rib cage. He said it was just a superficial wound.
Junius Ho is running for a seat at the Lok Chui constituency in Tuen Mun in the upcoming district council elections, competing against Lo Chun-yu from the Democratic Party and Chiang Ching-man, who didn’t declare any political affiliation.
