Hongkong Post said on Sunday that a postman who works at the General Post Office Delivery Office in Central has tested preliminary positive for the coronavirus, prompting the temporary closure of the facility while it is disinfected and staff undergo tests.
Hongkong Post said the postman has no recent travel history, wore a mask at the office and while out delivering post, and his body temperature was normal when screened at work.
It said he had last worked on Friday, and felt unwell that night. He went to a doctor on Saturday, and was told of his preliminary positive test on Sunday. He’s been sent to AsiaWorld-Expo for treatment.
The General Post Office Delivery Office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for thorough cleaning and disinfection, and about 250 staff members will undergo Covid-19 tests. They’ll await test results at home.
The postman handles deliveries for stretches of Queen’s Road Central, Stanley Street, and Wellington Street. Hongkong Post said it would send staff to inform buildings where the postman delivered post of the preliminary positive test, and notices will also be put up at these buildings.
It said a contingency plan has been activated to maintain delivery services for the district as far as possible, but there may be some delays, for which it apologised.
