The director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control at the University of Hong Kong, Professor Benjamin Cowling, says he's very concerned about a reported outbreak of Covid-19 among elderly care home residents.

"We thankfully haven't had any outbreaks in elderly homes before but if this is the start of an outbreak in an elderly home, I think that's really very concerning," he said.

An 85-year-old woman is said to have tested positive for the coronavirus. That's after a third local Covid-19 case was confirmed on Monday, connected to a congee and noodle shop worker, who came down with the disease the day before.

Professor Cowling said he expected more cases to emerge in the next few days.

The Centre for Health Protection also said 16 coronavirus infections were confirmed on Monday among people who'd recently returned to Hong Kong from overseas.
