  • Poor students face uphill task with online classes

Local students are back to having their classes online, following the decision to suspend in-person classes for the rest of the year as a precaution against the fourth wave of Covid-19.

Learning – and interacting with teachers and peers – through a computer screen is something most students have become accustomed to, after months of online learning during previous coronavirus spikes

But how does this compare to lessons in a classroom? And, how are underprivileged students coping with having to learn at a distance, when they may not have a fast computer or internet connection?

RTHK’s Violet Wong looked into the issue by visiting cousins Ann and Lara, who do their schoolwork from a shared bunk bed in a subdivided flat, on donated tablet computers they were given by their church.
