An honorary director of the Public Opinion Research Institute, Leung Kai-chi, said on Friday the police had entered its office and detectives were trying to take away all the computers.
The body helped design the voting system for the pro-democracy camp's primary elections for the upcoming Legco polls.
RTHK has learnt that the police entered the Wang Chuk Hang office with a warrant.
The police said their action was in response to recent complaints that people's personal details, including those of police officers, were leaked. They said they suspect the organisation's computers may have been hacked.
No one has been arrested so far.
Pro-democracy figures say ahead of Saturday's primaries, the government had stepped up its pressure against the event after the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Secretary Erick Tsang warned that primaries risk breaching the national security law.
The Home Affairs Bureau reiterated that district councillors who plan to use their offices as polling stations will not get any relevant expenditure reimbursed.
And the Housing Authority said it will take action against tenants who violate their tenancy agreements.
