Police say an off-duty sergeant has been arrested for common assault after a female colleague was allegedly hit on the head with a bottle.
Sources said the 40-year-old sergeant will be suspended from duty.
RTHK has learned that the victim was trying to break up a fight between two officers in the early hours on Sunday morning. They were among 10 off-duty officers eating at a restaurant in Yuen Long.
It's understood that the group were seated in three tables at the restaurant on Ping Wui Street at around 4:30 am. Sources said the sergeant had an argument with a transport officer and, as the 31-year-old female officer tried to mediate, she received a blow to her head.
Sources said when emergency unit officers arrived at the scene, the group had already left.
Police said the female officer was taken to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment.
In response to media enquiries, the force said it puts great emphasis on the conduct of officers, and anyone committing crimes would not be tolerated. It pledged to handle criminal investigations and disciplinary reviews in a serious manner.
