The police have put out a statement on an Apple Daily media report that the Commissioner of Police, Chris Tang, turned a blind eye to unauthorised building works at a flat he used to rent in Kowloon Tong. The statement said the content of the report "deviates from facts".

The force said Tang rented a unit on Broadcast Drive in 2016. A year later the Buildings Department contacted him to say there were unauthorised building works on the unit's rooftop, which had to be removed. The statement said Tang immediately informed the owner of the order and asked him to deal with it.

The statement then went on to say that the owner failed to comply with the order and Tang moved out of the unit in June 2019.

The police said they expressed regret over the report, which they described as unfounded.
