Police were on Friday investigating the death of one of their own officers who was believed to have shot himself in the head at the force's New Territories North headquarters in Tai Po.

A shot was heard in the building at about 7 o'clock on Friday morning.

The force said a service pistol was found next to the 33-year-old constable inside a washroom and a suicide note was also found.

The officer, who was a member of the emergency unit, was pronounced dead after being taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital.
