A group of protesters on Wednesday accused a police officer of intentionally shooting at a schoolboy with an intention to murder during the National Day clashes on the previous day.
Briefing the media a day after the first case of a protester getting hit by a live bullet, the group said the officer had ignored all regulations when he discharged the weapon on the 18-year-old student.
The regulations clearly states that an officer should not fire unless his life is in danger or grievous bodily harm, said one of the protesters.
"From many clips we have seen, the officer fires from close range in the chest of a school boy. It is beyond clear that this regulations have been violated, treated as if it is rubbish," he said.
"It is equally clear that the officer had the intention to murder. Otherwise why would he be aiming at the heart of this innocent boy?" he asked.
The protesters said the officer was fully geared up and his life was not under obvious threat when he charged forward to shoot the student.
They also said police officials were either lying or are visually impaired to say the shot was near his shoulder, as X-ray scans showed bullet fragments were only three centimetres away from his heart.
The protesters also said “where there’s suppression there will be resistance” and they believe most people are not scared of joining protests despite the police tactics.
They said they may call on people to go on another strike to press home their demands.
Earlier the event was briefly disrupted as some liquid was splashed into the area by someone. A few reporters were hit with a foul smelling liquid but no injuries were reported.
