The police have said the drive-by shooting of a middle-aged man early on Tuesday appears to be part of a triad dispute and vowed to crack down on all illicit activities committed by the criminal underworld.
Officers say the 45-year-old victim – who says he’s a businessman – was shot inside his vehicle by a man on a motorcycle at around 12.20am on Tuesday at the intersection of Austin Road and Canton Road.
The shooter then fled, before the victim drove himself to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for help, crashing into three taxis on Jordan Road near Parkes street on the way.
Police say the man was in stable condition after undergoing surgery, and there is no danger to his life.
Officers recovered a 9mm bullet casing from the scene of the shooting, and are investigating the case as attempted murder.
No one has been arrested yet, and police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
They say they will be launching a series of anti-triad operations, stressing that the force has the ability and the confidence to stop all violent crimes by triad gangsters.
