The High Court has rejected a bail application by activist Pun Ho-chiu, who's known as the "painter", as he faces charges over a siege of police headquarters in June.

Pun, 31, was the first person to appear in court in relation to the ongoing anti-government protests and is accused of assaulting police officers, criminal damage, and behaving in a disorderly manner.

Eastern Court refused to grant Pun bail and he took his bid to be released to the High Court instead.

But on Thursday, Judge Anthea Pang refused the activist bail, saying the court believes there is a chance he would commit offences or abscond.

Pun is best known for drawing on the streets during the Occupy movement in 2014 and had often appeared half-naked at various protests.
