  • Police fire pepper balls in Mong Kok

There were minor disturbances again in Mong Kok and Tuen Mun on Saturday night, after police operations drew angry reactions from local residents.

At one point officers in Mong Kok used pepper spray and pepper balls, and warned they would use tear gas to disperse a crowd that had gathered - which the police said amounted to an illegal assembly.

At Siu Lun Court in Tuen Mun, the presence of riot police also prompted angry chants from residents, forcing officers to retreat.

Earlier, some black-clad protesters set fire to objects and created a bonfire outside Tuen Mun Town Hall. The protesters quickly left before firefighters came to put out the flames, and riot police arrived at the scene.
