A student journalist of Baptist University who was arrested on Sunday over carrying a knife has hit back at the police for arresting him without a reason and distorting truth to justify their act.
Boaz So was arrested on Sunday in North Point for possessing an offensive weapon as he and his fellow students were covering clashes between pro- and anti-government groups in the area. So was wearing his reporting vest and carrying a student card with him at the time of his arrest.
The police said later that he had a nine-inch knife with him.
"I strongly condemn the police arresting me with no reason and distorting the truth at the press conference," he said.
"I also condemn the police of undermining the press freedom by stopping my colleagues from shooting videos of me under my consent," the student said.
So disputed police the claim, saying the blade of the knife was just four-inches long and the police was adding the length of the handle to describe the weapon.
He admitted that he did forget to leave his knife at home because he kept it in his bag after using it to share mooncakes with his girlfriend earlier.
The student journalist said now that he's on bail he may stay away from reporting on the frontline for some time, as per legal advice. So said he has not thought of taking legal action against the police.
