Police have deployed a water cannon in an attempt to clear people gathered in Tsim Sha Tsui on Tuesday to mark one month since the imposition of an emergency ban on masks at unauthorised protests.
Footage from the scene showed the water cannon being fired shortly after 9pm after dozens of people gathered in Centenary Gardens, a public area between Chatham Road South and Mody Road. A large squad of riot police was seen in Mody Road.
Police said protesters had built barricades, paralysed traffic by blocking part of Nathan Road and vandalised nearby shops.
The protesters chanted slogans including "Liberate Hong Kong" while many wore Guy Fawkes masks; November 5 is marked in Britain as the anniversary of an attempt by Fawkes and others to blow up the Houses of Parliament
Earlier, the government announced the early closure of leisure facilities in the Yau Tsim Mong District, including Kowloon Park in Tsim Sha Tsui.
