Police have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of links to what officers said were "home-made bombs" found outside a school in Wan Chai in December last year.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, senior superintendent Li Kwai-wah of the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau said that the suspect was arrested at Sau Mau Ping Estate on Tuesday night on suspicion of conspiring to wound with intent.

Li said police suspect the man of making a device that can be used to control bombs remotely.

Police also said they found electrical circuits, relevant tools, and tyre nails.

Li said the suspect is a student who took a mechanical course at a post-secondary college.

The police official also said they suspect the man of designing circuit boards similar to those found outside Wah Yan College last year.

In December, police had claimed they found what they described as "home-made bombs" near Wah Yan College after receiving a tip-off from a cleaner.

Officers at the time had said the packages contained two sieves that were filled with powder and wrapped with cling film, with a mobile phone attached.
