  • Police arrest man over Fanling protest attack

Police said on Friday that they have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with an attack on a Labour Party member during a protest at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.

The suspect is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A video posted by the party on social media appeared to show a man grabbing the neck of a protester and throwing him to the ground.

The two were quickly separated by other people present. The protester showed reporters who were covering the demonstration scratches on his arm and neck.

The party condemned the incident, which occurred during a demonstration by about 10 members of the party during a news conference by the Hong Kong Alliance of Golfers.

Demonstrators were seen running into the club's grounds, chanting slogans calling for the government to take back control of the land.

The Labour Party and a number of other groups support building homes at the site. Tommy Ho is a member of the Concerning Grassroots' Housing Rights Alliance.

Both the alliance and the Hong Kong Golf Club denied that the man seen in the footage is one of their members.
