The police have arrested five people, aged 23 to 50, who allegedly planned to rob staff of a money exchange shop who were transporting cash.
Officers say they received a tip-off early in the morning that a group of men were targeting two currency exchange workers transporting US$1.7 million by taxi.
Officers in an unmarked van were trying to intercepted the suspects' car near the San Tin interchange, when a lorry turned into their path causing all three vehicles to crash.
Police said there was a struggle as the suspects tried to escape, and an officer was forced to draw his revolver when one of them tried to attack him with a stun gun.
Four men were arrested at the scene, while a woman was arrested later at the Lok Ma Chau departure hall.
Officers recovered stun guns and knives during the operation.
