Anti-government protests continued in multiple locations across the city on Sunday night, with one of the largest demonstrations in Mong Kok.
Protesters hurled petrol bombs outside the Mong Kok police station, setting some of the huge water barriers that have been erected outside the station on fire.
Riot police doused the flames, aided by firefighters who arrived quickly afterwards.
Police later said more than 20 Molotov cocktails were thrown.
They also said a loud bang was heard as a police vehicle drove by Nathan Road at around 8pm, but it wasn’t clear whether this was some kind of explosive device.
Officers also said protesters set fires inside an MTR station there, damaged traffic lights, and blocked a number of roads.
A government vehicle that was parked on Dundas Street near Nathan Road was vandalised at around 7pm, with protesters smashing the windows and spraying graffiti on the car.
Police also say protesters stole everything inside. Some demonstrators were seen rooting through a box taken from the vehicle.
In a social media post, the force said the vehicle was being used by Identification Bureau officers who were handling a burglary that was not related to the protests, warning that the ‘rioters’ had committed criminal damage and face up to 10 years in prison.
“They had seriously disrupted law and order in the area and impeded police to deliver service to those in need”, the force said.
A tour coach in the area was also attacked, with protesters ripping off its licence plate, smashing its windscreen, and spraying it with graffiti.
A woman who protesters accused of taking close-up pictures of them was surrounded at one point after refusing to give up her phone.
Someone sprayed black paint on her face, and another hit her on the head with a water bottle.
Riot police later led her to safety.
