The Hospital Authority has issued an apology after separate blunders during laser eye treatments at two public hospitals, with one of the patients getting treatment in the wrong eye.

The incident happened at a specialist outpatient clinic of the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on Monday.

The patient was supposed to get laser therapy on the left eye, but the doctor mistakenly started the treatment on the right.

The doctor stopped the procedure and the equipment was adjusted after realising the mistake, and the patient hasn't suffered any adverse impact so far.

On the same day, another specialist outpatient clinic doctor at the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital wrongly used a higher degree of laser energy than intended on a patient.

A subsequent examination found that the patient's vision was slightly impaired.

The hospitals say they will continue to monitor the patients' conditions, probe the incidents and submit reports in eight weeks.

Meanwhile, the Hospital Authority has called on all relevant departments to strictly follow safety procedures.
