A partial evacuation has been ordered for a housing block in Wong Tai Sin after experts believe the Covid-19 virus might have spread through the building's pipes.
At least nine residents of Kwai Tung House at Tung Tau Estate have tested positive for the virus. Four of them live in unit 2315.
Prominent microbiologist Yuen Kwok-yung said after he inspected the building on Monday afternoon that they have reasons to believe the virus was spread to the upper floors from that unit. He pointed out that the toilet in unit 2315 and the kitchen in unit 2415 are near each other.
Residents living in units 2415 and 2915 have also been infected.
That prompted health authorities to send people living in units 15 above the 23rd floor to quarantine camps.
Other residents of the building will undergo mandatory testing.
