Hong Kong recorded a single fresh coronavirus case on Saturday, and for the second day in a row the patient is a resident of a Sha Tin housing block at the centre of an outbreak.

The Centre for Health Protection said a 33-year-old man who has come down with the virus lives next door to a 34-year-old woman who was the first known patient in the cluster.

Another seven of the woman's neighbours, two colleagues and a paramedic who treated her have all been infected with Covid-19.

Arrangements were made for the latest patient to go into quarantine earlier this month after the authorities evacuated all those living in flats ending in the numbers 10 and 12 in Luk Chuen House, on Lek Yuen Estate.

But on June 4, the day of the evacuation, he was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital with a fever. Earlier Covid-19 tests on the man had come back negative but he remained in hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Officials said that before going into hospital, the man had mainly stayed at home and was only in close contact with his mother and two elder brothers, who are all still in quarantine.

Hong Kong has so far confirmed 1,109 Covid-19 infections. There have been four fatalities.
