Kam Man-fung talks to RTHK's Janice Wong
Tuen Mun district councilor Kam Man-fung, who belongs to the pro-government New People's Party, said on Monday that top officials should go out and meet people to hear their complaints instead of holding a two-hour meeting this Wednesday with all district councillors.
Kam said other officials and political appointees should reach out to the public directly, and not just Chief Executive Carrie Lam. They have been hiding behind the police till now, he said.
"They are political appointees. It is their political responsbility to respond to the public's needs. But for about two to three months they have been hiding behind the police," he said. "I hope they really can go into the community to meet with the people, to talk to them directly."
Kam also told RTHK's Janice Wong that he would not be attending the meeting called by the CE as he felt 400 councillors gathering for a two-hour meeting will not achieve much.
A councillor from across the political divide, the Civic Party's Andy Yu from Yau Tsim Mong District, also agreed that the meeting called by Lam wouldn't be useful.
He said the meeting was unnecessary because their views and the views of the protesters had already been made clear a long time ago.
