The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, and other top and former officials attended a ceremony on Thursday to mark Victory Day at the Memorial Garden of the Hong Kong City Hall.

The day marks the official surrender of Japan in the Second World War 75 years ago.

Lam and senior officials bowed their heads and observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives during the war. The police fired 21 shots to pay tribute to the heroes.

The brief ceremony that lasted about ten minutes was also attended by the top judge Geoffrey Ma, liaison office director Luo Huining, Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) vice chairmen Tung Chee-hwa and CY Leung.

Other attendees included former Chief Executive Donald Tsang, the chief of the newly established security law office, Zheng Yanxiong, cabinet members and officials from disciplined services.
