A wildlife group has accused officials of failing to investigate the deaths of several wild boars in the past couple of months, saying it believes the cases involved animal cruelty.

The Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group said it has recorded at least six suspicious deaths of the animals in the Sha Tin area recently.

Roni Wong from the group said the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) had failed to look into what happened to the boars.

He said officials were supposed to look into how the animals died and then publish a report on the deaths, but they failed to do so.

The AFCD said it will follow-up on suspected acts of animal cruelty accordingly, but generally speaking, it does not conduct post-mortem examinations for dead wild boars. It said the carcasses are handed over to the Environmental Hygiene Department.
