The Hong Kong Observatory says it may issue the number three Strong Wind Signal on Friday night, as a depression continues to strengthen in the South China Sea.

Forecasters are expecting the system to develop into a tropical cyclone, as it moves towards the vicinity of Hainan Island to Beibu Wan over the weekend.

The observatory says it will be windy, and the storm is expected to bring heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over the southern Chinese coast.

It’s advised people to stay away from the shoreline and refrain from engaging in water sports.
