The Observatory issued the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal at 9.25pm on Wednesday, replacing the Black Rainstorm warning that was issued at 8.10pm.

The Red Rainstorm Warning means that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 50 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

People have been advised to stay indoors or take shelter in a safe place.

Motorists were warned that serious road flooding was likely, as well as traffic congestion.

People living near rivers were told to stay alert to the weather conditions and that they should consider evacuation if their homes appeared to be in danger of being flooded.
