  • Observatory issues No 3 storm signal

The Observatory raised its storm warning to the Strong Wind Signal No 3 shortly after midnight on Friday, as Typhoon Saudel continued to edge closer to the southern coast of China.

It said the strong winds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour from the storm were expected.

It also warned members of the public to stay away from the shoreline and refrain from water sports, as strong winds began to affect high ground and offshore waters in Hong Kong.

Typhoon Saudel was estimated to be about 580 kilometres south-southeast of Hong Kong at 9pm. It was expected to move northwest slowly across the central part of the South China Sea.

The Observatory issued the Standby Signal No. 1 at 5.40pm on Thursday.
