The Hong Kong Observatory says it expects the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 3 to be issued before 2pm.

The Observatory made the announcement as Tropical Storm Ewiniar was forecast to move north, or north-northeast, towards the coast of Guangdong. It is now situated about 340 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong and is expected to be closest to the SAR during the day.

Kindergartens, and schools for disabled children, have been suspended.

Local winds are expected to strengthen and the rainbands associated with Ewiniar will continue to bring squalls and heavy showers.

The Number One Signal has been in force for two days.
