Hong Kong on Monday witnessed another day with no new coronavirus cases – the fourth time in the past eight days.
The last time Hong Kong had gone two consecutive days without a single confirmed infection was all the way back in January.
No new Covid-19 cases were recorded on January 27 and 28, although there was a spike infections by the end of March.
Exactly a month ago, Hong Kong recorded a record 65 cases in a single day, at the peak of a 'second wave' of the Covid-19 epidemic brought on by the return of tens of thousands of residents from overseas countries.
The fact that there have only been 12 new cases in the SAR since last Monday strongly indicates that Hong Kong has turned the corner, and the number of free hospital beds and quarantine places are rising.
The total number of infections in the city stands at 1,037.
Despite the fall in the number of cases in recent days, the Centre for Health Protection reminded the public to keep up their personal hygiene and avoid unnecessary activities like gatherings and joint meals, to avoid contact with asymptomatic people who may be carrying the virus.
