The government has launched a
registration systemfor people who’ve recovered from Covid-19 so they can be exempted from the vaccine mandate for six months upon their recovery.
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) 's controller, Edwin Tsui, said those who’ve contracted Covid recently – and are recommended to be inoculated between 30 and 150 days after they’ve recovered – can download a QR code and use it instead of a vaccine pass.
The code would expire after six months, and then people will have to get jabbed to enter regulated premises, he said.
For the day, Hong Kong reported 600 new cases.
Eleven of them were imported, including one picked up at a community testing centre 12 days after the patient’s arrival.
Albert Au from the CHP said the 15-year-old boy arrived from Australia and had a low viral load so he could be a re-positive case.
As face-to-face classes resumed at some schools, authorities also said they were informed that 14 students had self-tested positive before they were supposed to go back to school.
Health authorities also reported that 17 more people with Covid had died.
In all, the fifth wave has seen more than 1.18 million infections and 8,963 deaths.
