Dr Kenny Chan talks to RTHK's Priscilla Ng

The Hospital Authority said on Tuesday that it is streamlining its computer systems in intensive care units to make sure that medical staff get all the data they need from a single screen.

Currently, medical staff have to monitor three computer devices in ICU to properly keep track of patients' progress.

The update is being carried out in five public hospitals at the moment – Pok Oi, Eastern, Princess Margaret, Yan Chai and Tuen Mun Hospitals – to make lives easier for ICU staff and minimise the chance of any oversight.

All information and directions, such as clinical notes, pathology results, and life support machine settings will be provided at one workstation.

Dr Kenny Chan, deputy chief of service for anaesthesia and intensive care at Tuen Mun Hospital, said this will enable doctors and nurses to give more attention to the patients instead of juggling with various computers.

He told RTHK's Priscilla Ng that if the project is successful, it will be extended to other public hospitals also.
