The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, says marine police have set up a designated hotline for people to report any big groups of people who look like they are having a yacht party.
Addressing the press before attending the weekly Executive Council meeting, Lam said with party rooms, night clubs and karaokes now ordered to close, some people may try to rent out private yachts and party at sea.
She said she will also ask her colleagues to check if there are any advertisements online for people to pay for yacht parties and follow up accordingly.
Lam made the announcement a day after she said a hotline will be set up for people to report violations of social distancing rules, which will be further tightened on Wednesday amid a new wave of Covid-19 infections.
The CE also called on people to avoid gatherings with friends or families outside or at home, saying the next couple of weeks is key to fighting the current wave of pandemic.
Civil servants providing non-emergency services will also begin working from home on Wednesday, and Lam reassured the public that they will still follow up on the implementation of government policies.
