Prosecutors said on Wednesday that they plan to call nearly a hundred witnesses in the trial against localist Edward Leung, who's accused of rioting in Mong Kok, and four others.
The defendants face charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, and inciting others to riot during the Lunar New Year in 2016.
Nine jurors were told in the High Court that they will be shown a lot of video footage, including some shot by the police, news organisations and surveillance cameras in Mong Kok.
The hearing is scheduled to last 60 days.
The prosecution said the witnesses are mostly police officers and officers from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department as well as two forensic experts and people who were in Mong Kok at the time.
The riot was triggered by the authorities' crackdown on unlicensed street hawkers, who had traditionally been tolerated during the holiday period.
