A 36-year-old woman, whose 17-day old daughter tested positive for methamphetamine in 2016, has been put on probation for 12 months.

Tsang Pui-kei had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse.

A social worker who visited Tsang suspected her of abusing drugs and took the baby for a medical test. Traces of methamphetamine, popularly known as ice, were found in the baby's urine.

The defence had told the court that Tsang was now reformed and had tested negative in all recent drug tests.

In sentencing, a West Kowloon magistrate warned the defendant not to go back to the habit, saying that would be very bad for both her and her daughter.
