So Yiu-kwan talks to RTHK's Frances Sit
The MTR faced more calls of action on Thursday over reports about the flawed platform construction in Hung Hom.
The NeoDemocrats said it's not convinced that the MTR has completely fixed the problem. The party demanded an investigation into whether the rail firm and its contractors had tried to cover up the problem. District Councillor Roy Tam said both the police and the Legislative Council should probe the matter.
Civic Party member So Yiu-kwan, who is a civil and structural engineer, said MTR officials ought to provide documentary proof that substandard construction work at Hung Hom Station has been put right.
The rail operator has admitted than in 2015, workers were found to have cut steel bars to make it seem like they had been correctly screwed in to couplers securing a platform floor to the walls. But the rail firm has insisted that the problem was rectified.
So told RTHK's Frances Sit that it is such a serious problem that it is not good enough just to take the MTR at its word.
