The MTR has announced that Admiralty, Wan Chai and Prince Edward stations will be temporarily closed from Tuesday morning. Trains will not stop at these stations until further notice.
The rail operator said after discussions with relevant government departments, and taking into account the safety of passengers and employees, it was decided prudent to close the stations.
It said shuttle buses will run to and from Ocean Park Station and Kennedy Town Station.
The MTR also said that depending on the situation, it may close other stations or part of their entrances and exits at any time without prior notice.
It said that that some internet users were advocating damage of MTR stations and trains and even jeopardising the safety of passengers. It stressed such actions are serious crimes.
Radical protesters have taken to vandalising MTR stations in recent weeks, while on Sunday petrol bombs were thrown into Wan Chai station.
Meanwhile the Airport Express will operate a non-stop service from Hong Kong Station to the airport from 2pm today - skipping stations in between - while check-in services at Kowloon Station will be suspended for the entire day.
The Airport Authority says the move is in response to online calls to block traffic to the airport. It said only passengers with valid air tickets or boarding passes will be allowed to enter the terminal buildings.
