The MTR Corporation said its service will resume on Tuesday, but 13 stations will not open because of damage, and the service will close at 8pm to allow for repairs.

In a statement, it said service would operate as normal on the Tsuen Wan, Kwung Tong, Tseung Kwan O, East Rail, West Rail, and Ma On Shan lines.

However, some stations are closed because of damage from protests:Mong Kok station on the Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan lines; Whampoa and Kwung Tong (Kwun Tong line); Tseung Kwan O, Hang Hau and Po Lam stations (Tseung Kwan O line); Tai Po Market Station (East Rail line); Siu Hong station (West Rail line); Che Kung Temple, Sha Tin Wai, City One, Shek Mun and Ma On Shan stations (Ma On Shan line).

The entire Airport Express line will be in service for Tuesday, and there will be check-in services at both Hong Kong and Kowloon Stations.

In an earlier statement issued on Monday evening, the MTR said it had suffered heavy damage caused by days of vandalism, with 16 stations attacked on Monday alone, along with fires set at five Light Rail stations.

The MTR had opened less than half its stations on Monday, offering services at just 39 stations, and ending operations by 6pm.

All services were suspended on Friday evening and on Saturday, as protesters responded to the government's controversial face mask ban by setting fires and wreaking havoc at MTR stations across the city.

The government also warned of road and rail disruptions on Tuesday morning, noting that some MTR stations have yet to be repaired, and added that other forms of public transport might be affected by “possible changes in road conditions”.

It issued a statement saying the Transport Department will announce the latest public transport situation around 6am on Tuesday morning after coordinating with transport operators.

A spokesman also urged employers and schools to adopt a “flexible approach” if students or workers show up late.

"Employers should make flexible work arrangements for staff having regard to their situations. This will help maintain good labour-management relations and ensure the safety of employees and the smooth operations of establishments," the spokesman said.
