  • Mourners pay tribute on anniversary of student death

Mourners have responded to an online call and created a makeshift tribute in Aberdeen to mark the anniversary of the death of university student Chow Tsz-lok, who fell to his death during a protest.

People stopped by a fountain in Aberdeen Centre, laying white flowers and bowing before leaving, while a man put down a sign made up of A4 papers with handwriting that said that justice had yet to be served for Chow and Chan Yin-lam, a teenage girl whose death was given an open verdict at an inquest after her body was found floating in the sea at the height of the anti-extradition protests.

“He died for us and we come here to remember him,” said university student Hazel after arriving to pay tribute with her parents and aunt.

“We’re very sad at his death and we just hope that he will be happy to see that we’re still fighting for freedom in Hong Kong,” she added.

Yau, who was with her mother, lamented that the 22-year-old had had his whole life ahead of him.

“He ended up like this because of the movement so I want to come here and mourn,” said Yau.

Another mourner, Mr Tam, blamed the government for Chow’s death, saying it hadn't uncovered the truth and noone knew why he died in the car park after a year.

But he said he was still holding out hope that the mystery surrounding Chow’s fall would be solved.

An inquest over Chow’s death is set to start on November 16 and is expected to last about five weeks.

There were also online posts calling on people to pay tribute on Sunday evening at the Tseung Kwan O carpark where Chow fell to his death.
