A survey suggests 80 percent of employees in Hong Kong would like to work from home at least once a week, even after the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

Last month, Lingnan University polled 2,000 people who have worked remotely, with most saying the arrangement can reduce stress and improve their work-life balance.

But only 30 percent of respondents said they had worked more efficiently while at home.

Professor Ada Wong from the university’s school of graduate studies, said bosses should not assume their staff will slack off when they work from home rather than the office.

"As reflected from our findings, most of the workers still prefer to work at home for just one or two days per week," Wong said.

"I think it reflects that all of us understand that there are some pros and cons of working at home, and therefore to balance these kinds of pros and cons, most of us want the option of having to work from home for one or two days per week."

The university also said the government should do more research on the topic and even adopt a trial scheme for civil servants.
