Civic Party lawmaker Tanya Chan on Tuesday called for councillors to be given more time to scrutinise the controversial anti-mask law.
The law was enacted using emergency regulations, and takes effect in its current form in December under a negative vetting process.
Chan said it’s the first time in decades that emergency regulations have been used and lawmakers needed time to scrutinise it.
"We hope that we would have sufficient opportunities to ask the Security Bureau or the DOJ (Department of Justice) to explain this law," Chan said.
She said one meeting a week was not enough.
The DAB's Wong Ting-kwong is chairing the Legco committee that's vetting it, and opposition lawmakers have accused him of trying to slow down meetings.
Chan’s fellow Civic Party lawmaker, Dennis Kwok, said earlier this month that enacting the law without public consultation or Legco scrutiny would deepen divisions in society.
