Health officials warned on Saturday that there might be silent transmissions of the coronavirus in Tai Po as a waiter who works at a bar there becomes the latest patient linked to the area.
The 26-year-old man, who lives at Kwong Fuk Estate in Tai Po, developed a cough last Saturday.
A number of Covid-19 patients confirmed recently live at the same public housing estate.
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man who lives at Po Nga Court, also in Tai Po, tested positive for the virus in preliminary tests.
Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection said officials had yet to find any link between the cases.
“There are chances that there’re silent transmissions of the virus in the area. We’ve been identifying cases here and there all over Hong Kong. There may be many silent transmissions and some may be in this area. Residents in Tai Po can get tested for Covid-19 if they are worried,” she said.
Two others also tested positive for the virus in preliminary tests. One of them is a woman who lives in Discovery Bay and another is a woman who lives in Yuen Long.
Two people who flew in from the UK have also been found to have the virus.
