Sources have told RTHK that more residents of an elderly care home in Tsz Wan Shan – where one woman was found to have contracted Covid-19 – has tested positive for the coronavirus in preliminary screening.
Sources told RTHK say around half a dozen people, including residents and staff, at the care home are now thought to have contracted the coronavirus after an 85-year-old resident was confirmed to be infected on Tuesday.
Sources also said a diner who had visited eateries linked to the recent cases is also among the new victims.
The news comes after Centre for Health Protection officials said on Tuesday that a new wave of Covid-19 cases is underway in the city, and that a community outbreak has happened again.
The CHP had also said on Tuesday that a 14-year-old student of Rotary Secondary School in Wong Tai Sin had tested positive for Covid-19.
On Wednesday, students were seen entering the school to receive notices for homework and some of them told reporters that the school will switch to online learning now.
The report of the student coming down with Covid-19 has prompted a number of schools to suspend classes. Dr Catherine F Woo Memorial School in Sha Tin said on Wednesday that they are planning to start their summer break with immediate effect.
