Two turtles have died after apparently being thrown out of the same building in Cheung Sha Wan where a dog fell to its death on Wednesday.

Police are investigating if the two cases are linked,.

Officers received a report around 11am on Thursday that the body of a turtle had been in Cheung Wah Street. The carcass of another turtle was later found nearby.

Last week, Marine Police rescued a dog from Victoria Harbour and handed it over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They tracked down its owner and returned the dog.

However on Wednesday, passers-by discovered glass shatters and blood stains outside a building Cheung Wah Street. Police were called and discovered the body of the rescued dog.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with a cruelty to animals and will appear in West Kowloon Magistracy on Friday.

Cruelty to animals carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment and a fine of HK$200,000.

Police say they take up about 70 abuse cases each year, with around on-third ending with convictions.
