  • More alleged shoddy work on Shatin-Central line

The chairman of the Legco's railway subcommittee, Michael Tien, has alleged that there is more shoddy work on the MTR's Shatin-Central link, which is under construction.

Citing sources, Tien said a subcontractor had been ordered to stop all excavation work at the Exhibition Centre station in Wan Chai, after the MTR found out there was inadequate support underground.

The subcontractor is a joint venture between Leighton and China State Construction.

Leighton has already been embroiled in another shoddy work scandal, in which the steel bars supporting a platform at the link's Hung Hom station extension were found to have been cut short.
