  • Medical Assoc head says many seek vaccine exemption

The president of the Medical Association, Choi Kin, says he's seen a lot of new patients coming to his private clinic to seek a Covid vaccination medical exemption.

"About 30-40 percent of patients, who came in yesterday… were new patients, asking whether they can be exempted from vaccination due to their previous illness," he said on RTHK's Hong Kong Today programme.

Dr Choi said most of the illnesses, that they'd had, didn't qualify for a medical exemption.

When asked whether most of these patients were elderly, Choi said he was surprised to find that most of them were either young or middle-aged.

In about two weeks' time, a vaccine pass will be introduced by the government. People will need to have had at least one jab to enter certain types of premises, such as shopping malls, restaurants, gyms and hair salons.

Choi advised anyone, who had tested positive for Covid using a testing kit, not to visit their local doctor. He said doctors' surgeries tend to be poorly ventilated, and a person with Covid would likely infect the location.
