Catering giant Maxim's Group has sought to distance itself from controversial remarks made by the daughter of its late founder, Annie Wu, saying that she doesn't hold any positions in the company.

In a statement, the group said Annie Wu, the elder daughter of the late Maxim’s Group founder James Wu, is not a person in charge of the group and she hasn't been involved in any management.

Annie Wu's stance over the ongoing unrest in Hong Kong had stirred up anger among some protesters against the Maxim's Group, after she spoke against the anti-government protests at the United Nations Human Rights Council earlier this month.

She told the forum that Hong Kong's stability had been shaken to the core by violent protesters.

Her remarks aroused anger from some protesters, leading to calls for a boycott of food and beverage outlets operated by the Maxim's Group; such as Starbucks, Simply Life and Jade Garden.

The group stressed that it sincerely hopes all parties can resolve their differences in light of the recent social incidents, and it apologises for the inconvenience caused to its customers.

It added that it has provided emergency guidelines and support to its frontline staff to ensure they can work in a safe environment.
